Nuttall Ornithological Club

December 05, 2011

Saw this in the NYT recently. Lovely article on the Nuttall Ornithological Club with a couple of great specimen photos. It warms my cold, crunchy heart to read about that 12 year old attending a meeting.

Hope you all had a great weekend. The above image is from the Field Museum collections. I took it last week. I need to confirm the species, but aren't they spectacular? Something to brighten up a grey Monday.

  2. Woweee what amazing colour, something so wonderful, it makes you feel small! Love them, certainly proves the colour stays. Just gorgeous. Thanks.

  3. The plumage makes me think of motmots, but without seeing the head it's a bit tricky.
I love messing around in natural history collections. I'm trying to start my own, though it is rather small at the moment.

  4. Hi Erika - Yes, I think you maybe correct. I remember looking at their tail feathers and beaks, and they would fit that of a motmot.

Not sure what you are collecting, but will assume hopefully it's not study skins ; )
