Hi bird nirds, I am out of town for a bit to conduct printmaking workshops at Design Ranch, put on the by the Austin AIGA. In the meantime, here is a another interview I did recently: Black Kettles Interview.
Once a week, volunteering in the bird division of the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History, I make study skins (taxidermy) of birds that have met their ends colliding with downtown buildings. Most of these species migrate through the Chicago area in spring and fall. The birds are collected by volunteers, brought to the museum, and prepared for the collections to be used for research. I create and add my paintings here to record each of the species I work on, in addition to my other work and whatever knowledge I can glean from being around the Field scientists. It's a great learning experience, and I want to share.
